A new weekly winter sports show will bring World leading snow Competitions, legendary Alpine destinations and mountain adventure to audiences across YouTube, TV, streaming and social media from January 2027.
London, 20 October 2026
Ski Sunday may be gone from the BBC, but the passion for winter sports is far from over.
Following the BBC’s decision last month to cancel the iconic programme, nearly 30,000 people have signed a petition calling to “Save Ski Sunday”. Now, the founder behind the Extreme Sports Channel is stepping forward with a new vision for winter sports broadcasting: Sunday in the Mountains.
Created by Wavelength and Extreme International, the new multi-platform show will combine the thrill of ski racing and freestyle competitions with the adventure, culture and characters that make mountain life so compelling.
Launching in January 2027, the series aims to bring the mountains to a new generation of fans, combining the excitement of race-day Sundays with a fresh, social first approach to sports entertainment.
Each week In the lead-up to each full episode, daily short-form content will bring audiences closer to the action through athlete interviews, behind-the-scenes footage, creator-led adventures and stories from the mountains will be posted across Wavelength’s network of social channels and partner publishers which combined has following of more than 80 million adventure fans across Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and Snapchat. The social content will build towards a weekly 45-minute episode, streaming globally on YouTube every Sunday, alongside a UK television broadcast, with the network to be announced shortly.
In a powerful nod to its heritage, Wavelength has secured the rights to the iconic Ski Sunday theme tune, Pop Looks Bach, (who knew that’s what it was called?) bringing one of winter sports broadcasting’s most recognisable musical signatures into this new era.
The first season is provisionally scheduled to launch from Adelboden, Switzerland, on 10 January 2027, taking viewers to some of Alpine skiing’s most celebrated destinations, including Cortina, Kitzbühel, Schladming and Crans-Montana.
Beyond the racing, Sunday in the Mountains will explore what makes each destination unique, its terrain and local culture to food, après-ski and adventure. Athletes, presenters and creators will bring audiences closer to the action, both on and off the slopes.
The ambition is for the show to appeal to lifelong ski and snowboard fans while introducing younger audiences to the excitement of winter sports and the wider world of the mountains.
Alistair Gosling, Founder and CEO of Wavelength, said:
“The TV industry is lamenting the death of broadcast TV but the future of media is repeatable social formats. Ski Sunday didn't need fixing, it just needed to adapt and move to where the audience has shifted to.
“The reaction to Ski Sunday’s cancellation shows just how much the programme means to people. We want to build on that passion, inspire the next generation of winter sports fans and support the growth of the snowsports industry.
“This is about bringing together the drama of competition, the magic of the mountains and the people who make this world so special. By taking the format beyond traditional television, we have an opportunity to build a truly global community around it.”
The combination of weekly episodes and daily social content will also create opportunities for brands and Alpine destinations to connect with audiences through the series and its wider storytelling.
Wavelength and Extreme International are in discussions with potential sponsors, partners and guest presenters, with further announcements expected in the coming weeks.
